In a remote and deeply challenging area, where the daily journey to school involves crossing a river and walking two kilometers, one individual has made an extraordinary impact. Through unwavering dedication, this person has nurtured a small learning space, growing its strength from a modest 15-20 students to an inspiring 72-plus today. This is the story of Dibyendu Mondal.
“The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles, but to irrigate deserts.” – C.S. Lewis.
Dibyendu Mondal joined Swapnopuron on March 7th, 2022, driven by its mission to bring quality English education to the Sundarbans’ underserved children. As Academic coordinator at the Chhoto Sahebkhali branch, he feels honored to be part of this vital work, which has also profoundly impacted his own life through continuous learning and growth.
He is deeply moved by the resilience of the students and parents who brave difficult commutes to attend school. Dibyendu envisions a brighter future for them and dreams of Swapnopuron becoming the first CBSE-affiliated school in the region, a beacon of English education for all.
His journey at Chhoto Sahebkhali began with just 15-20 students and initial skepticism from the community. As the sole teacher, Dibyendu tirelessly engaged with locals, visiting families to emphasize the importance of education and even personally bringing children to school.
Through his persistent efforts, mindsets shifted, and today, the branch has over 72 students with actively involved mothers who champion the school. Despite his daily arduous commute, Dibyendu’s greatest achievement is the transformed trust of the community in Swapnopuron.
It’s your turn. Where do you see deserts in need of irrigation? What challenges will you overcome to bring opportunity to others? Like Dibyendu, how will your persistence and care become a source of lasting impact in your own community?
